Work on, or outsource our weaknesses. This topic came up not too long ago during a conversation with a partner.
You have already started your business and you think “I will do everything involving my business”
Of course, your business is your creation, it’s your kid. Why would you trust someone else to run your business?
However … after a while you realize that running a business includes many activities that maybe you’re not proficient at.
Therefore, you need to start delegating some tasks.
Keep in mind that unless you begin to delegate, recognizing that you cannot do everything yourself, and allowing others to assume new responsibilities, you might find that your company is not growing as fast as it should.
We all have strengths and weaknesses.
Sometimes our greatest strength is recognizing our weaknesses, although analyzing our weaknesses is always what causes most concern.
I understand that some things can be in the gray area between strengths and weaknesses.
Remember you’re not a superhero and even superheroes have weaknesses.
However; how can you recognize our weaknesses?
Think whether you have the necessary knowledge for certain tasks.
Managing a business requires many skills. You must know about marketing, administration, social networking (among others).
List all tasks you regularly do and classify them according to your skills:
Excellent
Very Good
Good
Bad
Ask yourself what tasks give you energy or take it away.
Consider if you feel passion and joy performing the task. If you feel you make the most of the time and the task flows quickly. etc.
Activities that take energy away are those where you get bored, are a hard work to do, you feel they are senseless, they irritate you, or you feel you are wasting your time.
Analyze which tasks you perform more easily. Is it hard?, you feel lazy or clumsy doing that task?, or on the contrary, you do it without problems?
When people put their hands to something they’re good at, the results are often pretty great. When they put their hands at something they are not familiar with, the task becomes overwhelming from the start.
If you are skilled for technology and you must train yourself regarding the financials aspects of your business or you don’t know about marketing and you try to market your business on social media, then when do you have time to create new products or perfect the ones you already have?
The best way to figure out what you need to outsource is to make a list of tasks that you hate or that you feel are your biggest weaknesses and those are the first things to outsource.
Outsourcing your weaknesses can save precious time and money either creating your website or taking care of the customer service of your business, or having a freelancer to create a brand identity for you could turn out to be a superb investment.
Remember to focus on your strengths and outsource your weaknesses.
