Don’t do everything yourself – Delegate

As I referred to in several of my posts all entrepreneurs (including myself) when they start their businesses they do everything themselves.

I have also said on several occasions that entrepreneurs do everything themselves because they believe that outsourcing to others can be expensive or because they think “if you want a job done well, do it yourself.”

After a while, they realize that doing everything themselves can mean doing nothing or doing things badly.

To avoid this, they must analyze which tasks they can eliminate or delegate to another person.

Hiring employees is an essential part of most any growing business. The reason why everybody does it, is because it works. And in the long term, it saves them money.

I offer you a very good example to show you the benefits of delegating work in someone to do it for you. The question that an entrepreneur can ask is: Why would I hire someone to answer my emails if I can do it myself? To use that time to improve his relationship with customers, getting new prospects or enjoy some time with his family.

So, when considering whether or not to delegate tasks, it’s important to keep in mind all the benefits that come from it. This will help you make up your mind.

Delegating increases the time available to develop opportunities for your business
Assigning lower priority tasks allows you to handle higher priority tasks. You must bear in mind that training and supervision are necessary when new tasks are delegated.

Delegation helps manage time effectively.
For instance, when less skilled employees work on less skilled tasks, this allows skilled people to concentrate on working on more skilled tasks. As a result, delegation helps manage the limited time of more skilled people.

You’ll accomplish more with assistance from others
Delegating, entrepreneurs can focus their energy on critical issues of their business. That way they can bring effectiveness in their work and achieve more goals in the best way.
Initially, the amount of time they save may not be significant, but once the person they have delegated the task to becomes more expert, the time they will have available to meet their goals will be noticeable.

In your absence, the work will still be done
If you automate some tasks and manage to form a good virtual team your business will continue to operate even when you’re on vacation or you have taken the day off.

Reduces risk of burning out
Trying to do everything yourself you run the risk of exhausting yourself. Delegating enables you to free your to-do list thereby reducing this risk, as you’ll have less to do, and less pressure.

You’ll benefit from others’ experience and perspectives.
Surely you don’t have the necessary knowledge of all areas of your business. Delegating to the right person, you can benefit from her/his knowledge and experience to carry out certain tasks that would take you longer or maybe you do them wrong.

You’ll be more focused
If you delegate you will avoid distractions not doing jobs you should not do as the owner of your business.

The professional you hire treats you as a client.
If you hire a competent professional, you will be treated like a customer, not an employer.
This professional has his own company so his relationship with you is not a boss and employee but a peer to peer relationship. This professional will give you suggestions and ideas to foster you as a client.

Delegating tasks is something any entrepreneur needs to do at some point. If unproductive tasks are delegated you are not only saving time but investing.
